Liposhifting

  • The Treatment
  • The Liposhifting Procedure
  • LipoShifting is a surgical procedure that emulsifies existing body fat and then moves it to a new location to fill out skin depressions (such as cellulite dimpling)—all without any fat leaving the body.

To accomplish this goal, LipoShifting uses a surgical technique known as tumescent liposuction. Unlike traditional liposuction surgery, which requires a general intravenous anesthesia, the tumescent technique uses a local anesthesia that contains both an anesthetic and a drug that shrinks capillaries, thus minimizing blood loss. The result is a safer procedure with a shorter recovery time.

    The Treatment

Although fat is removed, LipoShifting’s primary purpose is not fat reduction. Its main goal is to re-contour an area of the body that needs bolstering and smoothing out. LipoShifting is not recommended for reshaping facial areas; the surgical instrument used in this procedure is simply not precise enough for such delicate areas.

    The Liposhifting Procedure

After you’ve received the tumescent anesthesia, your surgeon will create a small incision in your skin and insert an instrument that looks like a pen-shaped cheese grater. He or she will then use this “micro graft fat cutter” to loosen fat from its underlying connective tissue. The softened fat is then pushed into the nearby area that needs filling out and/or reshaping. The treated area is then taped for several days to keep the transferred fat in place.

Liposhifting poses several surgery-related risks, including infection and scarring. Choose a surgeon experienced in this technique, and be sure you get good follow-up care.
