This surgical procedure removes excess skin and fat from the buttocks and often from the thighs as well. It can be accompanied by standard liposuction surgery or laser-assisted lipolysis such as SmartLipo® to further tone and contour the area. Usually, the incision is strategically placed below the waistline so that the inevitable scar can be camouflaged by most swimming suits.
Buttocks often droop and widen with age. And some people carry excess fat on their buttocks that does not respond to exercise or weight loss. This procedure helps tighten and reshape the entire area. It may also help reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks by removing the skin on which these appear.
A buttocks lift, which generally takes about 2 hours, is performed in either an outpatient surgical center or in a hospital. You may or may not need to be hospitalized overnight. You’ll be given a local anesthesia and an intravenous sedative or general anesthesia, which will put you to sleep for the entire operation.
Expect some mild pain and tightness for a couple of days. The area will remain bruised and swollen for up to two weeks. Most people are back to work and other normal activities within a week or two, although you should avoid vigorous activity for at least a month.
